Lodgehill Campsite keeps things simple: 33 pitches in a large, gently uneven grass field, with a secluded setting near Banff and a semi-wild feel. Open during the summer months, it welcomes tents, campervans and dogs. The emphasis is on straightforward camping rather than an extensive range of facilities, making it suited to visitors who enjoy a quieter, back-to-basics stay.

Facilities comprise a single composting toilet, a shower and a drinking-water supply, with benches and a polytunnel for dining. Barbecues are permitted if raised clear of the grass, while campfires can be enjoyed in the communal fire pit. These shared spaces give campers somewhere to eat and gather without losing the site’s simple character. Banff is around a ten-minute drive away, with Cornhill about five minutes to the south.

For a day combining history and walking, Banff’s Duff House is an eighteenth-century mansion designed by William Adam and now used as a country house gallery. Its landscaped grounds have carriage drives and ornamental features, with a walk towards the Bridge of Alvah passing an ice house and the Duff family’s Gothic mausoleum. This is a separate outing from the campsite rather than a route beginning at your pitch. Boyndie Visitor Centre offers another option, with gardens, woodland walks and a small display about the wartime role of RAF Banff, alongside a restaurant, gift shop and garden centre.
