Woodlea Caravan Park

Woodlea Caravan Park is a family-run site near Mintlaw, with a quiet countryside setting suited to visitors exploring Buchan. Grass tent pitches sit alongside touring pitches, with campervans and dogs welcome. Practical facilities include toilets, hot showers, laundry and dishwashing areas, making the park a straightforward choice for both camping and touring stays. The emphasis is on a peaceful atmosphere rather than organised entertainment. Raised barbecues are allowed when used safely, but campfires are not permitted. The season runs from April to October, with bookings handled by phone or email.

Aden Country Park is a local highlight, offering woodland, parkland, gardens and a network of paths for walking and cycling. Its themed trails give a visit more focus: the Estate Trail explores the buildings and landscape of the former estate, while the Tree Trail introduces ten tree species, including specimens in the Victorian arboretum. The Nature Trail has interpretation panels and rubbing plaques, adding interest for children as well as adults. The park also has a café, children’s play area and the Aberdeenshire Farming Museum, housed within its distinctive farmstead buildings.

For another historical outing in the Mintlaw area, Deer Abbey preserves the ruins of a Cistercian monastery founded in 1219. Its association with the Book of Deer connects this quiet corner of Aberdeenshire with a manuscript containing the oldest surviving body of Gaelic writing in Scotland.
