Loch Chon Campsite

Loch Chon Campsite offers semi-wild, tent-only camping among trees beside the loch in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. Its character is deliberately simple: woodland pitches, a toilet block and a shared washing-up area, rather than the facilities of a larger holiday park. Dogs are welcome, and the rubber-matted pitches make a comfortable sleeping mat worth packing. Campfires are permitted in fire pits, with pit hire and wood available from the ranger’s hut.

The lochside setting will appeal to campers interested in outdoor swimming, while nearby Loch Ard offers another place to explore around the water. Loch Chon lies on the B829 between Kinlochard and Inversnaid, placing it within the wooded landscape of the western Trossachs. Aberfoyle has places to eat and shop, making it a useful stop for provisions before heading to camp.

For a separate walking or cycling outing, Loch Ard Forest has waymarked routes with more variety than a straightforward shoreline stroll. The 4.2km Lochan Spling Trail crosses the Duchray Water and loops through mixed woodland, with wildlife sculptures along the way. Its gravel surfaces include some short, fairly steep slopes and occasionally muddy patches. The longer, 6.7km Loch Ard Sculpture Trail explores the shores of Loch Ard, Little Loch Ard and Lochan a’ Ghleannin, combining loch views with artworks among the trees. These are forest outings to plan separately, rather than routes starting at the campsite.
