Sallochy Campsite Woodland Camping

Sallochy Campsite Woodland Camping offers a simple, tent-only stay on Loch Lomond’s eastern shore, with oak woodland behind the pitches and views across the water towards the Arrochar Alps. Its small beach gives the site a distinctly lochside character, while the surrounding 200-year-old woods offer space for a stroll away from the shore. The emphasis is on a semi-wild camping experience rather than a holiday park stay.

There are ten lochside pitches and ten inland pitches, with composting toilets and drinking water covering the essentials. Fire pits are available to hire, along with firewood, and dogs are welcome. Online booking is available. The choice between the shore and the inland camping area lets visitors decide which aspect of Sallochy’s setting they would most like to enjoy.

Walking gives a closer look at the landscape beyond the tents. The Sallochy Forest Trail begins at the car park and follows waymarked paths through the oakwoods, passing the ruined settlement of Wester Sallochy and reaching a viewpoint at Dùn Maoil. The circular route is 3.75km long, with some muddy stretches. For a longer outing, the West Highland Way section from Sallochy to Rowardennan covers 4.5km each way through woodland and along stretches of shore. It includes steep ups and downs, so it is more than a level waterside stroll; unless onward transport is arranged, allow for the return walk.
