Drymen Camping

Drymen Camping is a small, straightforward site on the West Highland Way and National Cycle Route 7, at the southern gateway to Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. Its open-field setting has pitches for small tents, alongside glamping pods for those travelling without a tent. Toilets and hot showers cover the essentials, dogs are welcome, and both pitches and pods can be booked online. Drymen has a pub serving food and drink, giving campers an alternative to cooking at their pitch.

The location suits walkers tackling the West Highland Way, but there are also worthwhile outings for visitors staying longer. From Drymen, a 3½-mile circular walk combines sections of the West Highland Way and Rob Roy Way. For a more demanding hill walk, Conic Hill rises to 361 metres above Balmaha on Loch Lomond’s eastern shore. The climb from the village is fairly steep, with views across the loch and its islands revealing the contrast between the lowland countryside and the hills beyond. These are separate walking options in the area, rather than routes starting at the campsite.

Balmaha also offers a shorter outing along the oak-lined shore and up to the viewpoint at Craigie Fort, although the route includes rocky steps and steep sections. Away from the walking trails, Glengoyne Distillery at Dumgoyne offers tours and whisky experiences which should be booked in advance; designated drivers can ask about taking their tasting samples away to enjoy later.
