Cashel Camping In The Forest Site occupies a wooded setting on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond, within Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. This large campsite welcomes tents and campervans, with toilets and showers, dogs permitted and online booking available. Direct access to the loch is a defining feature, while the surrounding forestry gives the site a character distinct from an open-field campsite. The West Highland Way passes the entrance, making Cashel a practical overnight stop for long-distance walkers as well as somewhere to settle for a longer camping trip.

Balmaha is around three miles south along the access road. For a hill walk starting in the village rather than at the campsite, Conic Hill rises to 361 metres above the loch. The ascent is fairly steep, with views opening out across Loch Lomond and its islands. The hill stands on the Highland Boundary Fault, marking the geological divide between the Highlands and Lowlands.

For a different outing, Inchcailloch forms part of Loch Lomond National Nature Reserve and can be reached by boat from Balmaha, subject to services and conditions. Its paths offer a choice between woodland exploration and a steeper climb to the island’s summit. The old church site and burial ground add a historical dimension to a visit, contrasting with the mainland’s lochside walking and hill routes.
