Cobleland Campsite

Oak trees and the River Forth give Cobleland Campsite its woodland-and-riverside character. Set at Gartmore within Queen Elizabeth Forest Park and Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, it has 126 pitches for tents and campervans, with a mixture of grass and hardstanding. Toilets and showers are available, dogs are welcome, and bookings can be made online. The season runs from 1 March to 30 November. Forest walks lead directly from the campsite, while fishing is possible on the adjoining stretch of the Forth. Gartmore’s Black Bull pub is around a 30-minute walk away.

For a separate woodland outing, The Lodge Forest Visitor Centre, a mile north of Aberfoyle, has several waymarked routes. Its 1.8km Waterfall Trail passes a monument to the Women’s Timber Corps before reaching the falls, while the 2.9km Oak Coppice Trail explores ancient oak woodland. These offer distinct alternatives to a hill day, although both include slopes and some uneven ground. The centre also has a café, and Go Ape is based here.

For broader views, the Lime Craig Trail climbs through the forest from The Lodge towards a viewpoint over the Carse of Stirling and the Highland Boundary Fault. It is a more substantial 6.6km outing, with sustained steep sections. Ben Venue offers a mountain day in the wider Trossachs, rising above Loch Katrine; it is a different undertaking from the forest trails and calls for appropriate hillwalking preparation.
