Caolasnacon Campsite

Caolasnacon Campsite occupies open ground on the banks of Loch Leven, between Kinlochleven and Glencoe. It welcomes tents, caravans and campervans, with toilets and showers available, and dogs are welcome too. The lochside setting is central to its character: wild swimming is possible in the loch, while campfires are permitted on the shoreline below the high-tide mark. For visitors combining nights under canvas with days exploring the Glencoe mountains, it offers straightforward camping facilities beside the water.

Kinlochleven’s Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall makes a worthwhile outing away from the campsite. The approach begins beside St Paul’s Church in the village and follows a woodland path to a footbridge, with a detour leading to the falls. Walkers wanting a longer excursion can continue on the circuit towards the former Mamore Lodge, though the uphill section is steep, rough and rocky rather than a gentle woodland stroll.

For a different introduction to the landscape, Glencoe Visitor Centre has exhibitions and information on local walks, weather and wildlife. Short woodland trails start at the centre, while the An Torr trails elsewhere in the glen explore woodland beside the River Coe and provide a route up to Signal Rock. These offer alternatives to committing to a mountain summit, allowing a stay at Caolasnacon to combine lochside camping with waterfall walks, woodland paths and more demanding hill days.
