Quick Read Campsite Summary

Red Squirrel Campsite sits beside the River Coe at the foot of Glencoe’s mountains, with woodland and open grassy areas giving it a varied setting. Grass and hardstanding pitches accommodate tents and campervans, while glamping pods offer an alternative to bringing your own shelter. Toilets and showers provide the practical essentials, dogs are welcome, and campfires are permitted. The combination of riverside pitches and fires gives the site much of its character, whether you are returning from the hills or spending an evening around camp.

The Clachaig Inn is around half an hour’s walk away for a meal or a drink away from the campsite. Paddling and wild swimming are possible in the river, but neither should be treated as risk-free; conditions need assessing before entering the water. For help planning days in the glen, the National Trust for Scotland’s Glencoe Visitor Centre has a large three-dimensional map, walking information and exhibitions exploring the area’s landscape and mountaineering history. Its reconstructed turf and creel house also offers an insight into traditional Highland building methods.

Glencoe Mountain Resort offers another way to experience the surrounding landscape without committing to a summit walk. Its sightseeing chairlift climbs above the valley floor, with views across Rannoch Moor and towards Buachaille Etive Mòr. There is a viewpoint directly beside the top station, making this a distinct alternative to the more demanding mountain days that draw walkers to Glencoe. Check operating conditions before travelling.
