Glencoe Mountain Resort

At the foot of the chairlift, Glencoe Mountain Resort offers a basic, semi-wild camping experience surrounded by mountains. Its open-field camping area has space for 20 tents, alongside four campervan hook-up points and 16 micro lodges for those travelling without a tent. Toilets, showers and an on-site café provide the essentials, while the character remains firmly outdoors-focused rather than that of a full-service holiday park. Dogs are welcome, the campsite opens all year and bookings can be made online.

The West Highland Way makes this a useful stop for long-distance walkers, as well as somewhere to stay for hillwalking, climbing and mountain biking trips. The Inveroran-to-Kingshouse stage passes the ski centre and Black Rock Cottage, with Buachaille Etive Mòr forming a striking landmark. This section crosses the exposed ground of Rannoch Moor: although the track is generally good, poor weather can make the crossing demanding, so suitable clothing and careful planning matter.

For a day exploring the wider glen, Glencoe Visitor Centre provides an introduction to its landscape and history through exhibitions, films and a large three-dimensional map. Its reconstructed turf and creel house offers a different perspective on these mountains, showing how people lived here in the 17th century. The house stands 200 metres from the visitor centre along a relatively level gravel path, making it a useful alternative to a day on the higher hills.
