By The Way Hostel And Campsite is a small, walker-focused site on the West Highland Way in Tyndrum, accepting tents no larger than two-person size. Its village location combines a stop on the long-distance trail with access to shops, pubs, restaurants and rail connections. Glamping pods offer an alternative to pitching a tent, while the communal indoor cooking area gives campers somewhere sheltered to prepare meals when the weather closes in.

Facilities include toilets, showers and Wi-Fi throughout the site. Tent pitches must be booked by telephone rather than online, an important distinction when planning a walking itinerary. Dogs are welcome in the camping areas, but are not permitted inside the hostel, Hobbit Houses or chalets.

Tyndrum sits in the hillwalking country of Breadalbane, within Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. Ben Lui, Ben Oss and Beinn Dubhchraig are among the surrounding Munros, giving experienced hillwalkers several mountain objectives to consider. The village has two railway stations, useful for visitors travelling without a car. For an outing that follows the glens rather than aiming for a summit, the West Highland Way south of Tyndrum follows the River Cononish before continuing towards Kirkton Farm, where the ruins of St Fillan’s Priory and its graveyard add historical interest to the walk.
