Spey Bay Caravan Site
Quick Read Campsite Summary
Spey Bay Caravan Site occupies a small corner of a links golf course at the mouth of the River Spey, looking out towards the Moray Firth. It welcomes tents and campervans, with toilets and showers, while the clubhouse bar and restaurant offer somewhere to eat and drink without leaving the site. Dogs are welcome, and the beach is directly across from the camping area. Golfers can take advantage of special rates for a round on the links. The season runs from 1 April to 31 October, with booking requests made through an online form rather than instant online booking.
The estuary gives this stretch of coast much of its character. Spey Bay’s nature reserve encompasses shingle, coastal grassland, saltmarsh and wet woodland, with the river continually reshaping its habitats. Bottlenose dolphins are regularly seen feeding around the river mouth, though sightings are never guaranteed. The Scottish Dolphin Centre in Spey Bay has wildlife displays and explores the area’s former salmon-fishing industry, including its historic icehouse.
For walking, the Speyside Way passes through Spey Bay on its Buckie-to-Fochabers section. Towards Fochabers, it follows woodland and riverside paths upstream; towards Buckie, the route combines woodland, former railway trackbed and coastline. These offer different ways to explore beyond the beach, although some paths around Spey Bay and beside the river are narrow and twisting.
