Portree Campsite

Portree Campsite sits just outside Portree on the Isle of Skye, with views towards the Cuillin mountain range. Its 40 hardstanding pitches cater for campervans, while tents have an open grass area. A modern toilet, shower and washing block covers the essentials, and Wi-Fi is available across the site. The location puts Portree’s shops, bars, restaurants and bus services around a 20-minute walk away, while offering some separation from the town’s lights for stargazing on clear nights.

Dogs are welcome, and barbecues are permitted as long as they are raised above the grass. Stays must be booked in advance rather than arriving without a reservation, and the maximum stay is ten nights. The season runs from 21 March to 31 October, giving visitors scope for spring and autumn trips as well as summer stays.

For a coastal walk from Portree itself, the Scorrybreac circuit follows the shore of Portree Bay, with views across the water towards Raasay. The 3.1km loop starts below the Cuillin Hills Hotel and includes narrow, rocky sections, so it is more than a pavement stroll. Further afield, the Old Man of Storr stands on the Trotternish peninsula, seven miles north of Portree. Allow at least two hours for the walk from its car park to the pinnacle and back; the ascent is steep and exposed, making supportive footwear, waterproofs and extra layers sensible even when conditions look settled.
