Kinloch Campsite

Kinloch Campsite sits on the shores of Loch Dunvegan in north-west Skye, with some pitches right beside the water for watching birdlife on the loch. Family-run and welcoming dogs, it accommodates campervans on hardstanding pitches and tents on a mixture of electric and non-electric pitches. Dunvegan village is a short walk away, putting shops, pubs and restaurants within reach without having to drive.

Practical facilities include toilets, showers, laundry and washing-up facilities, alongside sockets that are free to use for charging phones. Pitches can be booked through the campsite’s website, with different pitch options available to select. The combination of lochside camping and village amenities gives visitors scope to spend time around Dunvegan as well as explore the wider island.

Dunvegan Castle is a short drive from the site and has a long association with Clan MacLeod; its grounds include a water garden, a walled garden and woodland walks. For a coastal outing, the Coral Beaches walk starts at the road end at Claigan, rather than at the campsite. The four-kilometre return route crosses crofting land to a pale shoreline made largely from calcified algae known as maerl; dogs need close control around livestock. Neist Point offers a different landscape, with a lighthouse and steep cliffs at Skye’s westernmost headland. Its stepped path involves a descent and a climb back, while the unfenced cliff edges call for care.
