Sligachan Campsite
Quick Read Campsite Summary
Sligachan Campsite occupies an open setting at the foot of the Cuillin on the Isle of Skye, with a mountain-and-river backdrop that gives it a semi-wild feel. Its central island location suits visitors combining hillwalking with wider exploration, while the Sligachan Hotel next door offers a pub and restaurant for meals after a day out. The site welcomes tents, campervans and dogs, with a choice of grass and hardstanding pitches.
Hardstanding pitches, with or without electric hook-up, can be booked online; grass pitches for tents and campervans operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Large groups can arrange their stay by email. Practical facilities include toilets, showers, washing-up facilities, device charging and laundry, plus a small shop stocking essentials. Campfires are permitted only in raised fire pits, keeping heat away from the grass.
The local landscape offers reasons to linger beyond a summit attempt. Sligachan’s old stone bridge spans the river, and the nearby memorial to Norman Collie and John Mackenzie reflects the area’s mountaineering heritage. Paths from Sligachan lead towards the Cuillin, while the north-shore path beside Loch Sligachan offers a different perspective, looking across the water towards Glamaig. This shore route connects with the campsite, but it is not an all-weather stroll: sections towards Sligachan are boggy, and stream crossings can become awkward after rain. Choosing a route to match conditions is part of planning a walking day here.
