Staffin Campsite

Staffin Campsite sits beneath the Trotternish Ridge in northern Skye, with views across the Hebridean Minch. This small, dog-friendly site has hardstanding pitches for campervans and an open grass area for tents, with electric hook-up available. Toilets, showers, laundry facilities and a small shop cover the practical essentials, while a bothy gives tent campers somewhere to shelter when the weather turns.

There is a bus stop at the entrance, useful for visitors travelling without a vehicle, and Staffin’s shops are around a mile away on foot. A footpath leads from the campsite to Staffin Bay, offering an alternative to a day in the hills. Uig is around ten miles away for onward ferry travel to the Hebrides. Advance booking by email is recommended during the busy summer months.

The surrounding Trotternish landscape rewards time spent exploring its geology. The Quiraing’s pinnacles and gullies were formed by enormous landslips, creating one of Skye’s most distinctive stretches of upland scenery. Its hill circuit includes rocky ground, steep slopes and a gully crossing requiring care, so it is a more demanding outing than a casual viewpoint stroll. At An Corran in Staffin, dinosaur footprints preserved in the shore rocks reveal a much older landscape. Their visibility varies with the tides and shifting sand or seaweed, so finding them is not guaranteed on every visit.
