Port A Bhaigh Campsite

Port A Bhaigh Campsite occupies a family croft at Altandhu on the Coigach peninsula, north of Ullapool, with a coastal outlook towards the Summer Isles. It is a detour from the North Coast 500 rather than a stop directly on the main route, bringing visitors into the coastal landscape around Achiltibuie. Open all year and welcoming dogs, the campsite accommodates tents, campervans and motorhomes, with hardstanding and grass pitches, space for 42 motorhomes and room for 50 tents.

Practical facilities include a modern toilet and shower block and a small licensed shop on site. Next door, Am Fuaran Bar is run by the same owners, giving campers a convenient option for a drink or meal without heading elsewhere on the peninsula. Boat hire and fishing licences for Loch Oscaig are also available through the campsite. The surrounding area offers opportunities for coastal walking, climbing, kayaking, sailing and birdwatching, depending on conditions and your experience.

For an outing that puts the Highland landscape into perspective, Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve, off the A835 north of Ullapool, explains the geological forces that shaped the region. Its open-sided Rock Room introduces the story, while trails lead to the Moine Thrust, where older rocks were pushed over younger layers. The Quarry Trail offers an easier option, while the steeper Crag Top Trail gives views across Coigach and Assynt.
