Shore Caravan Site

Shore Caravan Site is a family-run, informal campsite beside Achmelvich Bay, near Lochinver on Scotland’s north-west coast. Its beachside setting puts the sands of Achmelvich at the centre of a stay, whether you prefer time on the shore or exploring the coast on foot. Tents and campervans are welcome, with flat grass and no marked pitches, allowing visitors to choose where to settle rather than follow a regimented layout.

Practical facilities include a toilet and shower block, a small shop for everyday essentials and an on-site fish and chip takeaway serving local produce. Barbecues and fire pits are permitted if raised off the ground, but bonfires are not allowed. There is also a strict no-dogs policy: visitors arriving with a dog will be turned away. The beach offers opportunities for watersports and wild swimming, subject to sea and weather conditions.

For a coastal outing, the walk from Achmelvich Beach car park to Alltan’abradhan follows an undulating path above the shore to a ruined grain mill and a bay with sandy and pebbly coves. It gives a reason to explore beyond the main beach without committing to a mountain day. Elsewhere along the Assynt coast, Clachtoll combines another sandy beach with a walk to an Iron Age broch, where surviving passageways and stairs reveal the structure within its thick stone walls.
