Scourie Caravan & Camping Park

Scourie Caravan & Camping Park occupies an elevated coastal position on the North Coast 500, with an outlook towards the sea and a small sandy beach a short walk away along the shore path. This small site has a mixture of hardstanding and grass pitches, some with electric hook-up, and welcomes tents, caravans and campervans. Toilets and showers are available, dogs are welcome, and the owners also run the Anchorage bar at the campsite entrance. Tent pitches operate on a first-come, first-served basis rather than through online booking.

For exploring on foot, Scourie Headland offers a three-kilometre circular walk beginning by the cemetery at the far end of the beach road. Its rough, unconstructed path calls for suitable footwear, taking walkers across coastal ground with views towards Handa Island and the Point of Stoer. The community bird hide beside the beach road offers another place to watch the bay. Scourie also lies within the North West Highlands UNESCO Global Geopark, where ancient, banded Lewisian gneiss is cut by the dark rock formations known as the Scourie dykes. Outcrops around the bay make this geological history visible without a mountain expedition.

Handa Island is a further option for a wildlife-focused outing, reached by ferry from Tarbet rather than directly from Scourie. Its sandstone cliffs support breeding seabirds including guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and puffins. Plan an island visit around the ferry’s operating arrangements and conditions, rather than treating it as an unrestricted coastal walk.
