Oakwood Caravan & Camping Park

Oakwood Caravan & Camping Park combines a small woodland setting with straightforward access to Aviemore, around a 20-minute walk away. Situated just outside the town in the Cairngorms National Park, it has grass and hardstanding pitches for tents and campervans, with toilets and showers on site. Dogs are welcome, and booking is available online. The season runs from 1 March to 31 October, making it an option for spring walking trips, summer holidays and autumn visits.

Aviemore’s shops, cafés, bars and outdoor activity providers give visitors plenty of choice without always needing to drive. Cairngorm Brewery and Kinrara Gin Distillery are also within walking distance of the campsite. For days higher in the hills, Cairngorm Mountain is around a 20-minute drive away, with a bus service operating through Aviemore offering another way to reach the mountain.

Walking options include the Speyside Way section between Aviemore and Boat of Garten, a six-mile route using minor roads, estate tracks and shared paths. It offers a lower-level outing rather than a mountain climb, although there are gates and awkward railway underpasses to negotiate. For a different landscape, Craigellachie National Nature Reserve is reached from the southern end of Aviemore through an underpass beneath the A9. Its four trails range from a short lochan walk to the 4.4-kilometre Viewpoint Trail, with birch woodland and views across Aviemore towards the Cairngorms; some approach paths are steep, rough or muddy.
