Loch Ness Bay Campsite

Loch Ness Bay Campsite occupies a spacious, open setting on the outskirts of Drumnadrochit, with village shops, pubs and restaurants a short walk away. Its layout combines 25 large, serviced hardstanding pitches suitable for campervans with a central grass area for tents, including larger family tents. Toilets, showers and washing-up facilities cover the everyday essentials, dogs are welcome, and bookings can be made online. The appeal is the combination of generous pitching space and access to village amenities, rather than a remote Highland setting.

Urquhart Castle is within walking distance of the campsite, making it a straightforward outing for those interested in the history of Loch Ness. The ruins occupy a rocky promontory overlooking the water; the remains of the Great Hall, prison cell and Grant Tower help tell the story of a fortress contested during the Wars of Independence. In Drumnadrochit, the Loch Ness Experience explores the monster legend through reported sightings, local stories and scientific investigations, offering a different perspective on the loch beyond its familiar photographs.

For a woodland walk, follow the waymarkers from Drumnadrochit to the Craigmonie trails. The circular Craigmonie Trail passes between giant redwoods before climbing to a viewpoint over Urquhart Bay and Loch Ness. At 1¼ miles, it is relatively short, but steep slopes, exposed roots and potentially muddy sections make it more demanding than a gentle village stroll. There is no parking at the woodland entrance, so the village is the recommended starting point.
