Cannich Woodland Camping

Cannich Woodland Camping is a small, laid-back site in the Highland village of Cannich, with open grassy tent pitches and hardstanding spaces for campervans surrounded by woodland. Glamping pods offer an alternative to bringing a tent, while shared toilets and showers cover the essentials. Dogs are welcome. The on-site Bog Cotton Café and mountain bike hire add to its appeal for walkers and cyclists, and a short walk into the village brings you to a grocery shop and a pub serving food.

Glen Affric is the main draw for exploring the area, with native Caledonian pinewoods, lochs and mountain country beyond Cannich. At Dog Falls, waymarked walks begin from the forest car park rather than the campsite. The two-mile Dog Falls Trail explores the river gorge, while the 2¾-mile Coire Loch Trail passes through pine and birch woodland to a small lochan. Both are graded strenuous, with steep sections and uneven ground, so these are more demanding walks than their modest distances might suggest.

For a less ambitious outing, Loch Beinn a’ Mheadhain has woodland paths and places to picnic beside the water. Loch Ness is also a short drive from the campsite, offering a different direction for a day out. Before heading into Glen Affric, it is worth sorting provisions in Cannich and downloading any maps: there are no shops or cafés in the glen itself, and mobile reception is limited.
