Inver Coille Campsite

Inver Coille Campsite combines tent camping and glamping in a wooded setting near Loch Ness, between Fort Augustus and Invermoriston. Walkers have direct access from the site to the Great Glen Way’s low route. The section between Fort Augustus and Invermoriston follows forest tracks, with views across Loch Ness and stretches among tall Douglas fir and Sitka spruce. A separate high-level alternative climbs above the treeline for wider views along the Great Glen, but involves steeper ascents and descents. Fort Augustus offers a different pace: the Caledonian Canal’s staircase of locks runs through the village, where watching boats negotiate the chambers is part of the appeal.

In Invermoriston, the old stone bridge, completed in 1813, adds a historic stop to an outing around the village’s river and falls. For a longer excursion, Plodda Falls combines a dramatic woodland cascade with towering conifers planted on the former Guisachan estate. Allow for the approach as well as the walk: the final stretch beyond Tomich follows a narrow road and forest track.
