The Bowling Club Camp Site

Run by the local bowling club, The Bowling Club Camp Site is a small, community-managed stopover on the edge of Tomintoul. Level, spacious pitches accommodate motorhomes, campervans and caravans, with open countryside views and a picnic area beside the bowling green. The practical facilities include toilets, drinking water and optional electric hook-up. Dogs are welcome, payment is through an honesty box and no pre-booking is required. This is a simple stop rather than a fully serviced touring park: with no showers or chemical waste disposal, it is best suited to visitors travelling with their own onboard facilities.

Tomintoul’s cafés, shops and restaurants are a short walk away, along with the Whisky Castle and Glenavon pub. For an introduction to the area’s history, the seasonally open Tomintoul & Glenlivet Discovery Centre occupies a spot in the village square. The Glenlivet Estate Visitor Centre, at the end of Main Street, offers countryside information and a woodland path past ponds and wildlife hides.

Walkers can pick up the waymarked, 4km Tomintoul Circular Path from the village square. It crosses farmland and woodland, passing the Victor Gaffney viewpoint, which looks across the River Avon towards Ben Avon; sections include steps and fields where livestock may be present. After dark, the campsite’s location within the Tomintoul and Glenlivet International Dark Sky Park adds another reason to spend time outdoors, with stargazing a possibility when skies are clear.
