The town’s historic landmarks give substance to a day away from the beach. St Andrews Cathedral’s extensive ruins mark the site of what was once Scotland’s largest church, while St Andrews Castle tells the story of the powerful medieval bishops and the religious conflicts of the Reformation. For an excursion beyond town, Kingsbarns Distillery occupies a restored eighteenth-century farm steading and offers whisky tours and tastings, alongside a shop and café.
