Lochranza Campsite and Golf

Lochranza Campsite and Golf combines a laid-back village setting on the Isle of Arran with its own nine-hole, par-three golf course. Mountains and greenery frame the site, giving it a distinctly upland feel without being isolated from village amenities. There are grass and hardstanding pitches for tents and campervans, with electric hook-up available, alongside a small selection of glamping pods. The golf course adds an alternative to days spent walking or exploring the island, whether you are a regular player or trying a casual round. At the entrance, The Stags Pavilion Restaurant serves local produce and vegetarian dishes. Lochranza Distillery, the home of Arran Whisky, is just around the corner, making whisky an obvious part of a stay here without needing to build every day around a longer excursion.

Elsewhere in the village, Lochranza Castle stands on a narrow peninsula extending into the sea loch. Its tower-house appearance conceals an earlier medieval hall-house, adding historical interest to a wander around the waterfront. A shoreline walk north from the village, past the castle towards Newton Point, leads to Hutton’s Unconformity, where contrasting layers of rock reveal a substantial gap in the geological record. The exposure is best seen at low tide: a distinctive outing for visitors interested in the landscapes beneath their feet as well as the hills around them.
