Glen Rosa Campsite
Quick Read Campsite Summary
Glen Rosa Campsite offers a small, semi-wild camping experience at the foot of Arran’s mountains, with an open-field setting beside the Rosa Burn. Facilities are straightforward: toilets and a washing-up area give tent campers a few practical comforts while keeping the character close to wild camping. Dogs are welcome, campfires are permitted and firewood is sold on site. Tent parties of four people or fewer do not need to pre-book.
The burn and its natural pools are part of the site’s appeal, with the Glen Rosa Blue Pool around half a mile away. There is also a brewery a short walk from the campsite, and the Wineport is close by. For exploring the landscape, Glen Rosa rewards attention beyond its mountain skyline: the broad, U-shaped valley was carved by glaciers, and mounds of sediment beside the burn mark their retreat. The glen’s geological walking guide highlights views towards the pointed granite summit of Cìr Mhòr near the Garbh Allt bridge.
For a more demanding day, the main Goat Fell route starts at Cladach, behind the Wineport, rather than at the campsite. Arran’s highest summit reaches 874 metres, with steep, rocky ground on the final approach and navigation skills needed in poor visibility. Brodick Castle, Garden & Country Park offers a different outing, combining historic interiors with formal gardens, woodland trails, ponds and waterfalls.
