Dornoch Firth Caravan Park
Quick Read Campsite Summary
Dornoch Firth Caravan Park is a family-owned site just outside Tain, with views towards the firth and a position on the North Coast 500 driving route. Despite its name, it is Tain rather than Dornoch that is the nearest town. The A9 is close by, making road access convenient, but traffic noise can be noticeable: this is worth bearing in mind if quiet evenings are a priority.
The park accommodates touring visitors, with a limited number of tent pitches and spaces for campervans under six metres long. Electric hook-up is included for campervans and available to tent campers for an additional charge. Toilets, showers, laundry facilities and a dishwashing area cover the practical essentials, and dogs are welcome. The camping season runs from April to October. With tent spaces limited, advance enquiries are recommended; these can be made through the website’s enquiry form or by email, rather than through instant online booking. A local viewpoint can be reached on foot for a wider look across the firth.
Glenmorangie Distillery is one of the closest visitor attractions, offering tours and tastings alongside a visitor centre with a museum and shop. Avoid walking along the busy A9 to reach it. For a different outing, Dornoch has a 13th-century cathedral and a sandy beach, while the Easter Ross Peninsula offers coastal villages and Pictish heritage, including the Tarbat Discovery Centre at Portmahomack. These give worthwhile alternatives to simply continuing along the main North Coast 500 route.
