Cromarty Camping

Cromarty Camping keeps things small, with eight purpose-built pitches beside a sandy beach on the Cromarty Firth. Community-run and open all year, it welcomes motorhomes up to nine metres long, campervans and vehicles with roof tents. The waterfront setting brings broad views across the firth towards Ben Wyvis and the northern Highlands, while Cromarty’s café, bakery, pub and restaurant are a short walk away. Dogs are welcome, and pitches can be booked online.

Electric hook-ups come as standard, with fresh water, grey-water and chemical-waste disposal, refuse and recycling facilities, and a washing-up sink with hot and cold water. There are three private unisex shower rooms, each with a toilet, washbasin, electric shower and shaver socket. These include a fully accessible room that also serves as a family shower room. The combination of beach access, practical motorhome facilities and places to eat within walking distance gives the site a useful balance between a coastal stopover and time exploring Cromarty itself.

In town, Hugh Miller’s Birthplace Cottage & Museum introduces the geologist, writer and fossil collector through his thatched birthplace and the neighbouring museum’s fossils, tools and manuscripts. Check opening arrangements when planning a visit, particularly in winter. For a more energetic outing, the Cromarty explorer walking circuit starts at the seafront car park and climbs steeply through woodland to the South Sutor viewpoint, overlooking the firth, before returning through the town’s historic streets. It is a separate town-based walk rather than a route beginning at the campsite.
