Camusdarach Campsite

A path through the dunes, rather than a beachfront pitch, links Camusdarach Campsite with three white-sand beaches. This small, family-run site in the Arisaig area welcomes tents and campervans, with grass and hardstanding pitches alongside three glamping pods. Dogs are welcome, and practical facilities include toilets, showers and an on-site shop serving takeaway coffee and croissants, with pizza available in July and August. Campfires are permitted on site when raised off the ground, and on the beach below the high-tide mark.

Camusdarach stands on the B8008 coastal road between Arisaig and Mallaig, around four miles from Arisaig and five miles from Mallaig. Beach walks are an obvious draw, with Camusdarach’s sands also known as a filming location for Local Hero. For a longer outing, the approximately two-mile Traigh–Camusdarach circular starts at Traigh Beach car park and links bays, dune paths and stretches of the coastal road, with views towards the Small Isles.

The surrounding coast offers opportunities for swimming and kayaking, while Traigh’s nine-hole golf course lies about a mile from the campsite. Mallaig adds a working fishing port to the mix and is a departure point for ferries to Skye and the Small Isles, giving visitors scope to plan an island excursion as well as time on the mainland coast.
