Long Beach Campsite

Reaching Long Beach Campsite means leaving the car behind: access to Knoydart is by passenger boat from Mallaig or a demanding overland hike through the hills. The campsite is around 15 minutes’ walk from Inverie pier, with an outlook towards the island of Rum. It combines a remote coastal setting with access to the peninsula’s main village, rather than complete isolation from local life. Ferry sailings can be affected by weather, so travel plans need some flexibility.

This is a semi-wild, tent-only site with open pitches beside the beach. Dogs are welcome, and toilets and showers provide practical comforts after the journey in. Campfires are permitted, with firepits, firewood, fresh water, picnic benches and a shelter adding to the simple camping arrangements. Online booking is available. The beach gives the stay a clear coastal focus, whether you spend your time walking the shore or resting between longer outings into the hills. Inverie also has a pub and places to eat.

For exploration beyond the shore, Inverie Woods has a network of paths and tracks, with sculptures, benches and shelters along the way. Woodland maps are available in the village, making these useful alternatives to a mountain day. Knoydart’s Munros include Ladhar Bheinn, Luinne Bheinn and Meall Buidhe; these are objectives for properly equipped hillwalkers, not casual extensions of a beach stroll. Ranger-led walks offer another way to explore the peninsula’s woodland, wildlife and community history.
