Dunnet Head is the main local draw: mainland Britain’s northernmost point is a landscape of sea cliffs, coastal heath and grassland. Around the lighthouse and reserve, cliff-top viewpoints give a different perspective on the coast, while breeding seabirds include puffins, razorbills, guillemots, fulmars and kittiwakes. Sightings depend on the season, rather than being guaranteed. For a change from the headland, Dunnet Community Forest has waymarked woodland trails, sculptures and a red trail passing through woodland and meadow, adding a contrasting walking option to a coastal itinerary.
