Wick River Campsite

Wick River Campsite combines a quiet riverside setting with easy access to town. This small, family-run site sits just outside Wick, with grass pitches for tents and campervans in a secluded spot surrounded by trees and overlooking the River Wick. Toilets and showers are available, dogs are welcome, and bookings can be made online or by telephone. Pubs, restaurants and shops are a short walk away, making it practical to leave the campervan parked when heading into town for a meal or supplies.

Wick’s fishing heritage gives a visit to the town added interest. The Wick Heritage Centre on Bank Row explores local lives and maritime history, while its Johnston Collection records Caithness through photographs taken by three generations of the same family. Old Pulteney Distillery offers guided production tours and whisky tastings in Pulteneytown; advance booking is recommended, particularly during summer.

For a coastal excursion, the Castle of Old Wick stands on a narrow rocky promontory between deep gullies, with its ruined four-storey tower facing the North Sea. The surviving structure is thought to date from the 14th century or later, despite older traditions surrounding its origins. It is signposted from Wick town centre and is free to visit, offering a distinct contrast to the campsite’s sheltered, tree-lined river setting.
