The Wee Campsite

The Wee Campsite is a small site at Lochcarron on the North Coast 500, with pitches for tents and campervans beside Loch Carron. Its straightforward facilities include a toilet and shower block, and dogs are welcome. A pub is within a short walk, making an evening meal out an option without moving the van. For booking enquiries, email is the owner’s preferred approach; text messages are also acceptable, rather than telephone calls.

There is good reason to pause here rather than simply continue around the driving route. West of Lochcarron, a path through Strome Wood and open grazing land leads to the abandoned township of Stromemeanach, where ruined blackhouses and a circular kiln remain. Walkers looking for a more demanding outing can continue towards Bad a’Chreamha, although this extension crosses rough ground. These walks have separate starting points west of the village, rather than beginning at the campsite, and dogs should be kept on leads around the sheep grazings.

On the south side of Loch Carron, Attadale offers a different kind of day out. Its 20-acre gardens combine water gardens, a Japanese garden and sculptures, with woodland and hills forming the wider setting. The estate also has walking options through the strath and on forest tracks towards Loch an Iasaich, allowing visitors to choose between a garden visit and a longer walk. Together, these outings give a stay here a mix of local history, cultivated landscapes and Highland walking.
