Shieldaig Camping and Cabins

Overlooking Shieldaig Island from an elevated position in the village, Shieldaig Camping and Cabins is a small, family-run site on the Wester Ross coast. For a local walk, the An Aird peninsula extends from Shieldaig into Loch Torridon. The 4.5km circuit described by Walkhighlands begins at the village car park near the public toilets, rather than at the campsite. It follows tracks and paths through birch woodland and heather moorland, with views across the loch towards the surrounding mountains. Despite its modest length, sections are rough, rocky and wet, so it should not be mistaken for a level waterfront stroll. The shoreline also offers places to watch for otters and herons, without any guarantee of a sighting.

Shieldaig also sits on the North Coast 500 driving route, with Torridon and the Applecross peninsula offering distinct directions for further exploration. A stay here can combine village amenities and coastal walking with days spent exploring the wider north-west Highlands.
