Gairloch Caravan & Camping Site

Gairloch Caravan & Camping Site is a small, dog-friendly site in the village, with shops, a pub and a golden sandy beach within walking distance. It accommodates campervans but is currently not accepting tents. Toilets and showers are available, and booking is by email. The village setting suits visitors who want to leave the van parked for everyday errands or an evening at the pub, rather than stay somewhere isolated.

For a coastal outing, Gairloch’s Gaineamh Mhòr beach has golden sand backed by dunes and the golf course. The Gairloch Beach and Pier circuit starts at the beach car park beside the golf club, rather than at the campsite, and links the shore with Charlestown pier and Flowerdale Arboretum. Its paths include steps and some climbing, making it a more varied walk than a simple stroll along the sand.

Gairloch Museum offers an introduction to the area’s history and natural heritage inside a converted Cold War nuclear bunker. Among its distinctive exhibits are the original Rubh Re lighthouse lens and a replica croft house; a guide to the Achtercairn Archaeology Trail behind the museum is available from its shop. Another option for an excursion is Badachro Distillery, which offers tours exploring its production methods, followed by tastings of its gins, whiskies and vodka. Drivers can take away a miniature instead of drinking their tasting on site.
