South Whittlieburn Farm Campsite
Quick Read Campsite Summary
South Whittlieburn Farm Campsite is a small, family-run site on a working farm, a short drive from the seaside town of Largs. Its separate tent field is car-free, with campers free to choose where they pitch, while campervans have a choice of hardstanding and soft-standing pitches. Electric hook-ups are available for both tents and campervans, and the outlook is across the surrounding farmland. Dogs are welcome, and glamping pods with hot tubs offer an alternative to bringing your own accommodation.
Practical facilities include a shower and toilet block and the on-site Pitch Up n’ Pig Out café, serving hot and cold filled rolls and other food. Campfires are permitted in fire pits or under the owners’ direction, but restrictions can apply during dry ground conditions or unsuitable weather. Campfire supplies can be bought on site; gathering wood is not allowed. Online booking is available through the campsite’s website.
For days out, Largs is also the departure point for the ferry to Cumbrae, with a crossing of around ten minutes. The island offers the option of exploring Millport as part of a day away from the mainland. For woodland rather than coastal scenery, Kelburn Estate has a network of trails through its glen and gardens. The Long Glen Walk passes a waterfall known as the Cascade, while the History Trail introduces features of the estate through explanatory signs. These are separate outings from the campsite, adding variety to a stay centred on the farm and Ayrshire coast.
