Kelburn Campsite
Quick Read Campsite Summary
Kelburn Campsite occupies the grounds of the historic Kelburn Estate near Largs, with the castle’s colourful graffiti artwork giving the setting a distinctive character. There is a large grass area for tents, a limited number of hardstanding campervan pitches and bell tents for those who prefer accommodation already set up. Toilets, showers and scattered fire pits cover the camping essentials. Dogs are welcome with campers, although not in the bell tents.
Much of the interest lies within the estate itself, which has woodland walks, waterfalls, gardens, play areas, a café and a small shop. The Short Glen Walk follows a sculpture trail featuring wooden animals, birds and fish, adding a particular focus for a family wander. For a longer exploration, the Middle Glen Walk crosses the burn at Three Falls Bridge and passes a grassy plateau of beech trees before offering several ways back towards the castle and gardens. These are estate routes rather than walks described as starting at your pitch.
Fairlie is a short walk away, with a railway station offering direct trains to Glasgow, while the coastal path provides a longer outing towards Largs. From Largs, the ferry crosses to Cumbrae Slip, rather than landing in Millport itself. A connecting island bus provides the onward link, with Millport four miles from the slipway—a useful distinction when planning an island day out without a car.
