Castle Point Caravan Site

Castle Point Caravan Site is a small coastal campsite at Rockcliffe, around 300 yards from the sea, with three sandy beaches within a short walk. Its elevated setting overlooks the Urr estuary, giving the site a strong seaside character without placing pitches directly on the beach. There are grass and hardstanding pitches for tents and campervans, along with electrical hook-ups, toilets and showers. Dogs are welcome subject to specific breed restrictions, so owners should check these before booking. Reservations can be made online through the official website or by telephone.

Walking around Rockcliffe brings together shore, woodland and history. The Jubilee Path links the village with Kippford through land managed for wildlife, passing flowering meadows in summer. A detour to the Mote of Mark reaches a rocky hilltop that was an important sixth-century trading post; surviving ramparts and views over Rough Firth give the climb a historical as well as scenic interest.

For a different coastal outing, the path towards Castlehill Point follows the shoreline over sometimes rocky and muddy ground, with views towards Rough Island and Hestan Island. Beyond the point, the coast path continues along the cliffs towards Portling and Sandyhills. These are walks to approach with suitable footwear rather than as beach promenades, while the estuary’s mudflats offer opportunities to watch feeding ducks and waders, particularly during winter.
