Torridon Camp Site
Quick Read Campsite Summary
Torridon Camp Site offers straightforward, tent-only camping at the entrance to Torridon village, just off the A896 on the North Coast 500 route. This small, sheltered site has 30 pitches in an open-field setting, with a toilet and shower covering the essentials. It is open all year, welcomes dogs and operates without pre-booking. There is no fixed charge, though donations are welcome. A shop lies within a mile, while the pub is around 30 minutes away on foot.
Walking in Torridon need not mean heading for a summit. At Fasag, the village shore path follows the head of Loch Torridon past Am Ploc, an open-air meeting place associated with the church Disruption of 1843, before continuing around the bay towards Mains Farm. Another grassy path, starting beside the mountain rescue base behind the community centre, explores traces of the townships that preceded the present village. These offer ways to discover the area’s history as well as its landscape.
For experienced hillwalkers, Beinn Alligin, Liathach and Beinn Eighe give the area its mountaineering character. These are serious mountain outings requiring appropriate equipment and preparation, rather than casual extensions of a village stroll. Beinn Alligin’s main circuit starts at Coire Mhic Nobuil car park, not at the campsite, and includes steep, rough terrain and scrambling along the Horns.
