Wairds Park Campsite
Quick Read Campsite Summary
Wairds Park Campsite combines a coastal village setting with plenty to do on site. In Johnshaven, between Aberdeen and Dundee, this family holiday park welcomes tents on grass pitches and campervans on hardstanding, with electric hook-up available. Toilets, showers, a food preparation area and laundry cover the practicalities, while an on-site shop is useful for everyday supplies. Dogs are welcome, and the camping season runs from 1 April to 31 October.
Tennis courts, an 18-hole mini-golf course and lawn bowling give families options for spending time at the park without arranging a day out. For a meal away from the camping stove, the Anchor Hotel Bar is around eight minutes away on foot along the coastal path, with fresh shellfish available from the Lobster Shop next door. The combination of village amenities and on-site recreation makes this a different proposition from a remote coastal campsite.
For a longer outing on foot, the coastal route links Johnshaven with Gourdon and Inverbervie, incorporating stretches of the former railway line. It offers a way to explore the relationship between these coastal settlements rather than simply travelling between them by road. In Gourdon, the harbour heritage walk draws attention to the old lifeboat station, slipway and buildings associated with the fishing trade. The Maggie Law Maritime Museum occupies a former coastguard building beside the old harbour, adding another strand to the area’s seafaring history.
