South Links Holiday Park

South Links Holiday Park combines a beachfront setting with the convenience of staying within Montrose. Primarily a static caravan park, it also has a grass area for tents and hardstanding pitches for campervans, with toilets and showers on site. Dogs are welcome. Montrose centre is a short stroll away, putting shops, restaurants and bars within reach without needing to drive for every meal or errand. This is a town-based seaside stay rather than a remote camping spot, with the beach and town centre both close at hand.

For a different side of the local landscape, Montrose Basin is an enclosed estuary of the River South Esk, with extensive tidal mudflats that provide feeding and roosting grounds for birds. Its visitor centre offers a focus for wildlife watching, while walks and hides around the reserve are reached from several separate access points. Autumn brings large numbers of pink-footed geese; other species associated with the basin include redshanks, eider ducks and wigeon. On the western side, footpaths from the Mill car park opposite the House of Dun estate entrance lead towards bird hides.

Montrose Air Station Museum adds a historical option to a stay here. It tells the story of Britain’s first operational military air station, established in February 1913, and the people who served there. Aircraft exhibits include a full-size replica B.E.2a and a Tornado GR4, spanning markedly different eras of military aviation.
