The Wheel Caravan Park and Campsite is a small, basic site at Rough Castle Farm on the outskirts of Falkirk. Campervans use a hardstanding area with a car-park-style layout, while tents occupy an open field with a semi-wild feel. A toilet and shower block and communal kitchen provide the practical essentials, and dogs are welcome. There is also a gypsy cabin for visitors who prefer a roof over canvas. The Falkirk Wheel is around a ten-minute walk from the campsite. This rotating boat lift connects the Forth & Clyde and Union canals, and boat trips offer a chance to experience the mechanism from the water. It gives a visit here a distinctive engineering focus alongside the walking and cycling opportunities in the surrounding area. Canada Wood café is also around ten minutes away on foot, serving breakfast, lunch, coffee and cakes.

For a different side of the district’s history, Rough Castle Roman fort preserves earthworks associated with the Antonine Wall. Its surviving defensive features include rows of shallow pits known as lilia, originally designed to hold concealed sharpened stakes. These remains offer a striking contrast to the modern engineering of the Wheel. Falkirk town centre is around a fifteen-minute drive from the campsite, with rail connections to Edinburgh and Glasgow for days out beyond the local area.

Small basic campsite located on Rough Castle Farm on the outskirts of Falkirk that is suitable for campervans in a hard-standing car park style setting and tents within an open field semi-wild setting. There is a toilet and shower block with a communal kitchen area for us by campers. The site is located near many cycling trails, a 10-minute walk to the Falkirk Wheel and 45-minute walk to the Kelpies. There is also a café Canada Wood a 10-minute walk from the site that boasts stunning panoramic views towards the Ochil hills serving breakfast, lunch, coffee and cakes. For those looking for glamping the site has a gypsy cabin available for rent. The recently renovated Rosebank Distillery is a 30-minute walk where tours are planned for the future (check Rosebank Distillery website to confirm when tours begin). There is also a pub around a 30-minute walk and Falkirk town centre is a 15-minute drive where you will find train links to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
