Jura Hotel (Campsite)

Jura Hotel Campsite occupies the grassy ground in front of the hotel in Craighouse, with a coastal setting overlooking the Sound of Jura. It combines tent camping beside the sea with a village location, rather than an isolated pitch in the island’s interior. The camping season runs from April to September, and dogs are welcome. Toilets and showers are available for campers, while the hotel’s pub and restaurant offer somewhere to eat or have a drink without leaving the grounds.

Jura Distillery is next door to the hotel, making whisky part of the immediate surroundings rather than an excursion across the island. The campsite’s beach setting also lends itself to time along the shore, with Small Isles Bay forming the coastal backdrop to Craighouse. This is a useful choice for visitors who want village amenities alongside access to Jura’s much wilder landscapes.

For experienced hillwalkers, the Paps of Jura offer a demanding mountain day. The three distinctive summits include Beinn an Òir, the island’s highest point at 785 metres. A recognised circuit starts at the Three Arch Bridge over the Corran River, not at the campsite. Its boggy approach, steep scree and boulder-covered slopes require proper preparation and navigation skills; it should not be mistaken for a casual waymarked walk.
