Bridgend Outdoor Centre Campsite
Quick Read Campsite Summary
Small in scale and looking out over the water, Bridgend Outdoor Centre Campsite has a semi-wild feel without dispensing with everyday comforts. There are four fully serviced hardstanding touring pitches for campervans and other touring vehicles, alongside a flat grassy area for tents. Toilets, showers, a utility room, laundry facilities, chemical disposal and free Wi-Fi make it a practical stop on a Shetland trip, and dogs are welcome. The campsite opens all year and operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with no advance bookings; payment is made through an on-site honesty box.
Minn Beach is a natural focus for exploring the surrounding coast. At the southern end of West Burra, its sand forms one side of a tombolo linking the island with Kettla Ness. A footpath leads from the beach car park towards the shore and headland, giving visitors the option of combining time on the sand with a coastal walk. Arctic terns and Arctic skuas nest on the headland, so give nesting areas plenty of space.
Elsewhere on Burra, Meal Beach offers another sandy shore reached by a path from its car park. Hamnavoe adds a different perspective on island life, with a fishing harbour and a walk towards the lighthouse at Fugla Ness. For a longer outing, the Hamnavoe circular route takes in the cliffs and Meal Beach before returning by road; it is a separate excursion rather than a route starting at the campsite.
