Bonchester Bridge Camping & Caravan Park
Quick Read Campsite Summary
Bonchester Bridge Camping & Caravan Park is a quiet riverside site surrounded by woodland in the village of Bonchester Bridge, in the Scottish Borders. Well-proportioned pitches accommodate tents, trailer tents, roof tents, campervans, motorhomes and touring caravans, with electric hook-up and riverside views available on some pitches. An additional grass area opens for tent camping during August. Dogs are welcome, and the season runs from 1 May to 30 September, with online booking available.
The modern toilet and shower block also contains washing facilities and charging points. Mobile reception is virtually non-existent, so it is worth planning for limited connectivity; the Horse & Hounds pub next door offers free Wi-Fi alongside food and drink. Fire pits can be hired from the campsite office, with fires kept off the grass and safely clear of tents.
Hawick, six miles away, is the practical stop for stocking up and has several reasons to linger. The Borders Distillery offers guided tours led by its distillers, explaining the production process and including tastings. For a walk during a visit to town, Wilton Lodge Park follows the River Teviot and combines woodland paths with a walled garden, café and play park. Hawick Museum, within the park, adds displays ranging from archaeology and Victorian life to exhibitions celebrating local motorcycle racing champions Jimmie Guthrie and Steve Hislop.
