Glenshiel Campsite
Quick Read Campsite Summary
At Shiel Bridge, beneath the Five Sisters of Kintail, Glenshiel Campsite is a small Highland site with a straightforward, outdoors-focused character. Its mountain setting and proximity to the River Shiel appeal to walkers, climbers and Cape Wrath Trail hikers, while the modest scale keeps the emphasis on a quiet rural stay. Hard-standing pitches with electric hook-up accommodate campervans, alongside simple grass pitches for tents.
Practical facilities include toilets, a modern shower and cleaning block with round-the-clock access, drying areas, grey-water and chemical disposal, and recycling points. Two live-in wardens are on site daily, with arrivals welcomed between 13:00 and 20:00. Dogs are welcome, and small fires and barbecues are permitted when supervised and kept off the grass. The season runs from April to October, with online booking available.
The surrounding Kintail landscape offers more than high-level ridge walking: its trail network also explores lower glens, woodland and the shores of Loch Duich. The Five Sisters and South Glen Shiel Ridge are options for experienced hillwalkers, while the Falls of Glomach require a substantial outing rather than a roadside stop; the 113-metre waterfall can only be reached on foot. For a change from the hills, Eilean Donan Castle at Dornie brings the area’s history into focus, standing on an island where three sea lochs meet. Its present appearance owes much to a twentieth-century restoration following destruction in 1719.
