The Walled Garden Caravan park 

The Walled Garden Caravan Park takes its character from its setting: every pitch sits within a walled garden on Kilkerran Estate in the Ayrshire countryside. Small, family-run and adults-only, it welcomes touring caravans, motorhomes, campervans and tents, with dogs welcome too. The secluded location offers opportunities for stargazing on clear nights, while local shops, restaurants and bars are around ten minutes away by car.

Practical facilities include a toilet and shower block, laundry facilities, dishwashing sinks and electric hook-up. There is also a glamping pod for those travelling without their own camping accommodation. The season runs from April to November, and bookings can be made online through the campsite’s official website.

For days out, Culzean Castle and Country Park combines Robert Adam’s clifftop architecture with woodland, beaches, formal gardens and the Swan Pond, giving visitors scope to mix a castle visit with time outdoors. In Alloway, the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum brings together the poet’s childhood cottage and a collection that includes handwritten manuscripts; Alloway Auld Kirk and the Brig o’ Doon add places associated with Tam o’ Shanter to the itinerary. Crossraguel Abbey, near Maybole, offers a different strand of Ayrshire history through its surviving monastic buildings. Its visitor season is shorter than the campsite’s, and conservation work restricts access to some areas, so opening arrangements merit checking before setting off.
