Quick Read Campsite Summary

Shepherds Rest Campsite is a small, family-run site on a working farm in the Scottish Borders, near Berwick-upon-Tweed. An open grass area accommodates tents, while shepherd’s huts offer a glamping alternative. The farm setting gives the place its character, with opportunities to join the owners to meet pigs and ponies, collect eggs from the chickens and see lambs in spring. At Foulden, the campsite sits in the rural eastern Borders, with Berwick and the coast offering a contrast to days spent around the farm.

Practical facilities include toilets, showers and a washing-up block, with electric hook-up available for tents at an additional charge. Campfires are permitted in fire pits raised clear of the grass. A local bus stop is around ten minutes’ walk away, with services connecting surrounding towns and railway links. The emphasis is on tent camping and shepherd’s-hut stays, with the working farm an important part of the experience.

For a town outing, Berwick’s fortifications offer a walk around the full circuit, taking in Elizabethan bastions alongside surviving sections of medieval defences. Meg’s Mount is one suggested starting point, with a riverside path leading towards the castle remains. For a coastal excursion, St Abb’s Head has clifftop trails and an inland loop beside Mire Loch, with routes starting from the nature reserve rather than the campsite. Between May and July, the headland’s cliffs and offshore stacks support nesting guillemots, kittiwakes and razorbills, adding a seasonal wildlife focus to a day’s walking.
