Port Mor Campsite

Port Mor Campsite is a small coastal site in Port Charlotte on Islay, with grass and hardstanding pitches for tents and campervans. Dogs are welcome, and a toilet and shower block provides the main camping facilities. Its village setting puts useful amenities within reach on foot: the Port Charlotte Hotel and Lochindaal Hotel are both within a ten-minute walk, as are a shop, museum and wildlife centre. The campsite’s season runs from 1 March to 30 November, with booking enquiries handled by telephone, email or online form.

Port Charlotte’s history gives a wander through the village some substance. Former Lochindaal Distillery buildings survive here, with a warehouse now housing the Islay Nature Centre. Its exhibits, aquariums and natural-history records offer an introduction to the island’s wildlife and habitats. The Museum of Islay Life, housed in a former church, explores the island’s past through archaeological finds, domestic objects, photographs and local stories. Check individual opening arrangements before planning a visit to either attraction.

Bruichladdich Distillery, home to both whisky and The Botanist gin, is around 2.5 miles from the campsite. Guided distillery tours and warehouse tastings give visitors different ways to explore its production and spirits, with advance booking advised. For a walk elsewhere in the area, the Loch Indaal Way connects Port Charlotte and Bruichladdich along the loch; it is a village-to-village route rather than a trail starting at the campsite.
